Please OPPOSE Michigan House Bill 4608, which is NOW headed to The Senate (11/03/2023).

Michigan HB 4608 takes away the rights of advanced nutrition professionals such as myself, Miranda Moore-Stepnitz, M.S., CNS, from practicing medical nutrition therapy in the state of Michigan. This bill creates a monopoly that excludes other certified advanced nutritional professionals from practicing nutrition while only allowing registered dietitians to practice. 

The Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists (BCNS) administers the gold-standard certification for personalized nutrition practitioners: Certified Nutrition Specialists® (CNS®).

The CNS credential is the most widely recognized nutrition certification besides the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for registered dietitians by federal and state governments; CNS is the ONLY non-dietetics (RD) credential and examination widely named in state nutrition licensure laws. Most states recognize the CNS credential and allow Certified Nutrition Specialists to practice in their states. 

Let’s join those states by opposing this bill and creating one that will enable us, both RDs and CNSs, to practice in Michigan. 

MI oppose this bill that excludes advanced nutritional professionals such as board-certified CNSs from practicing nutrition in the state of Michigan.
